Men with Type 1 Diabetes at Seven Times Higher Risk for Depression
16 Dec 2024 • Men with type 1 diabetes face over seven times the odds of experiencing elevated depressive symptoms compared to their peers without diabetes, according to a new study.
- The research, based on 414 adults with type 1 diabetes and 488 without, revealed significantly higher depressive scores in both sexes, but only men showed a marked increase in depressive symptoms (OR 7.4).
- Women with type 1 diabetes did not show a significant difference in depressive symptoms compared to women without diabetes.
- The study also highlights that depressive symptoms were linked to lower self-management behaviors and physical activity.
