20 Dec 2024 • In pregnant women with pre-existing asthma, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) increased the odds of asthma flare-ups during pregnancy by 36%!

Blood glucose levels played a critical role, with each doubling of glucose doubling the exacerbation risk. Key factors such as pre-pregnancy asthma exacerbations & higher BMI also heightened the risk.

While the postpartum period showed no significant link, the findings highlight the importance of universal screening and strict glucose management in pregnant asthma patients to prevent complications.
