Pregnant Women with Psoriasis Face Heightened Risk of Cardiac Complications

31 Jan 2025 • Pregnant women with psoriasis are at a significantly higher risk of severe complications during delivery, a new study has found.

Analyzing data from 37 million hospitalizations researchers discovered that these women face a 25% increased risk of developing preeclampsia/eclampsia and a 44% higher risk of cardiac arrhythmias compared to those without psoriasis. Additionally, psoriasis patients were more likely to experience acute kidney injury, pulmonary edema, and venous thromboembolism.

The findings highlight the urgent need for heightened cardiovascular monitoring and tailored care for pregnant women with psoriasis to mitigate these risks and improve maternal health outcomes.
