19 Feb 2025 • Kerala has unveiled Nayanamritham 2.0, the world’s first government-led AI-driven program for chronic eye disease screening, aimed at enhancing early detection and accessibility of eye care.

Building on the success of its predecessor, Nayanamritham 1.0, the new initiative integrates AI-enabled fundus cameras, enabling optometrists to quickly classify eye conditions like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

This empowers healthcare providers across community health centers, taluk hospitals, and district hospitals to improve patient care.
