Habitual Snoring Elevates Coronary Artery Disease and Myocardial Infarction Risk

7 Feb 2025 • Habitual snoring increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial infarction (MI), and stable angina pectoris (SAP), regardless of obesity status. A large-scale study involving nearly 500,000 participants analyzed the relationship between snoring and CAD.

Over a 12.3-year follow-up, 48,997 participants developed CAD. Habitual snoring was linked to higher risks of CAD (HR 1.06), MI (HR 1.06), and SAP (HR 1.14), even in non-obese individuals. Genetically predicted habitual snoring further confirmed these associations, with CAD (OR 1.09) and MI (OR 1.15) risk persisting independently of BMI.

These findings highlight the importance of addressing snoring as a potential cardiovascular risk factor.
