Could Low Testosterone Be a Hidden Factor in Recurrent Pregnancy Loss?
14 Feb 2025 • New research suggests that low basal serum testosterone (TT) levels could be a risk factor for recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) in women with infertility.
In a study of women undergoing IVF, those with a history of RPL had significantly lower TT levels (1.21 vs. 1.37 nmol/L) and higher fasting insulin levels compared to those without prior miscarriages. Researchers identified a testosterone threshold of 1.33 nmol/L, below which the likelihood of RPL increased.
The findings indicate that testosterone may play a crucial role in pregnancy maintenance, potentially opening new avenues for risk assessment and targeted interventions in women struggling with infertility.
