Heart Failure Emerges as Leading Concern in Post-MI Patients
30 Jan 2025 • Patients discharged after acute myocardial infarction (MI) face a higher risk of developing heart failure (HF) than experiencing a recurrent MI.
A recent study findings revealed that within a year, 23.8% developed HF, compared to 3.8% experiencing another MI. Even among those with preserved ejection fraction (EF >50%) and no prior history of HF, 11.8% developed HF. HF was linked to significantly higher mortality and hospitalization rates, regardless of EF.
These findings underscore the need for proactive HF prevention, emphasizing early risk assessment and optimized post-MI management to improve long-term outcomes.
