Persistent Vasomotor Symptoms Linked to 50% Spike in Diabetes Risk Among Midlife Women
4 Nov 2024 • Women experiencing frequent vasomotor symptoms (VMS) like hot flashes and night sweats during menopause face a significantly higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D), according to a new study.
- Analyzing data from 2,761 racially diverse midlife women, researchers found that those with frequent VMS had a 45% higher risk of incident diabetes compared to those without symptoms.
- Furthermore, women with persistently high VMS experienced a 50% increased risk, indicating that frequent or persistent VMS could identify a high-risk group for targeted diabetes prevention.
