7 Feb 2025 • Diabetes mellitus (DM), particularly type 2 diabetes (T2DM), may significantly elevate the risk of tuberculosis (TB), according to a recent analysis.

Four MR studies revealed consistent findings, with odds ratios (OR) ranging from 1.07 to 1.24. The pooled OR of 1.2172 suggests a clear positive association between T2DM and TB.

Interestingly, no evidence was found to support reverse causality, ruling out TB as a cause for DM. These findings underscore the importance of integrating diabetes screening in TB control programs, especially in high-risk individuals.
