5 Feb 2025 • Spironolactone 5% has been proven to significantly reduce total lesion count and acne severity index (ASI) in patients with severe acne vulgaris.

Notably, the 100 mg dose also showed marked improvement in ASI, outperforming topical treatments. Although comedones and pustules showed no major differences over 6–8 weeks, single-arm studies indicated improvements after 8 weeks.

With an excellent safety profile, spironolactone offers a promising treatment for severe acne.
