HbA1c Variability Alters BP Control's Impact in Diabetes Patients
5 Dec 2024 • Intensive blood pressure (BP) control can significantly reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events, including nonfatal myocardial infarction and stroke in type 2 diabetes patients - but only for those with low HbA1c variability, claimed a new study.
A new analysis from the ACCORD-BP trial found that while intensive BP treatment helped reduce cardiovascular events in patients with stable HbA1c levels, it showed no effect on overall mortality or heart disease risk in those with higher HbA1c fluctuations.
Managing HbA1c stability could enhance the cardiovascular benefits of intensive BP control in type 2 diabetes patients.
