Flavonoid-Rich Diet Reduce Nocturia Risk in Older Adults
7 Feb 2025 • Nocturia, a prevalent condition among older adults, can be mitigated by increased dietary flavonoid intake, according to a study using NHANES 2007–2010 data. Researchers analyzed 5,926 middle-aged and older adults, revealing an inverse association between flavonoid consumption and nocturia prevalence (OR: 0.93).
Key flavonoid subclasses—anthocyanins, flavan-3-ols, and flavonols—were identified as protective, with compounds like peonidin, catechin, theaflavin-3,3'-digallate, isorhamnetin, kaempferol, and quercetin showing significant effects.
These findings underscore the potential of flavonoid-rich diets in reducing nocturia and enhancing quality of life for aging populations.
