Sleep Apnea Risk Elevated in Individuals with Normal Tension Glaucoma
14 Feb 2025 • Individuals with normal tension glaucoma (NTG) face a higher risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), according to a population-based study using the STOP-Bang questionnaire.
Analysis of data from over 8,800 adults revealed that NTG patients had higher STOP-Bang scores (2.42 vs. 2.04) than controls. After adjusting for confounders, those classified as high risk for OSA were 54% more likely to have NTG.
The findings suggest that NTG patients—especially those with risk factors like male sex, high BMI (>35), or a neck circumference >40 cm—should be monitored for OSA to improve overall health outcomes.
