24 Jan 2025 • Pune is currently witnessing an alarming rise in cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), with 67 confirmed cases so far. Health authorities are actively monitoring the situation, and the State Health Department has deployed a Rapid Response Team (RRT) as the number of cases continues to rise.

GBS is a rare autoimmune disorder that is often preceded by an infection, such as a viral or bacterial illness. In this condition, the body's immune system attacks the nerves, leading to muscle weakness and, in severe cases, paralysis. Diagnosis can be confirmed through tests like nerve conduction studies and CSF analysis.

Health officials are advising the public to be aware of the signs and symptoms, which can include sudden weakness or tingling sensation in the limbs. People are advised to maintain good hygiene and take precautions to avoid infections that could potentially trigger the condition.
