Nearly 50% of Individuals with Hair Loss Experience Anxiety, Study Confirms
14 Feb 2025 • A systematic review and meta-analysis found a significant association between hair loss and anxiety disorders. Among 5,553 individuals with alopecia, nearly half (47%) had anxiety, with severity ranging from mild (35%) to severe (5%).
Analysis of studies using the HADS-A scale further confirmed the link, showing higher rates of borderline abnormal (17%) and abnormal (23%) anxiety among those with hair loss.
These findings underscore the need for mental health screening in individuals experiencing hair loss, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach to care.
