12 Feb 2025 • A new surgical technique, prioritizing the inferior mesenteric artery dissection with a complete medial approach (IMA-CMA), is proving to be a safer and more effective technique for left-sided colon cancer surgery.

A recent study comparing IMA-CMA to the traditional approach found that patients in the IMA-CMA group had a shorter operating time, reduced intraoperative blood loss, and a shorter hospital stay.

Additionally, this approach led to the retrieval of more lymph nodes, including vital central lymph nodes, without increasing postoperative complications.

By enhancing surgical precision and optimizing lymph node dissection, IMA-CMA offers a safer, more effective alternative for radical resection.
