About this session
The global landscape of metabolic health is shifting—from a simplistic “calories in, calories out” model to a far more nuanced understanding of obesity as a chronic, relapsing neuroendocrine disease. The Obesity Trilogy, led by Dr Om Lakhani, is designed to reframe obesity through a modern clinical lens— integrating endocrinology, metabolism, neuroscience, and long-term disease modification.
The first lecture in this series focuses on the role of dopamine and the reward pathway in obesity. Moving beyond the narrative of willpower, this session explores how obesity is often driven by dysregulation in the brain’s homeostatic and hedonic systems. A deep dive into the mesolimbic dopaminergic system will unpack its role in food cravings, reinforcement behavior, and what is often described as “reward deficiency syndrome".
