About this session
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has become an established treatment option for selected patients with aortic stenosis, with advances in valve technology, imaging, and procedural techniques continuing to expand its role. For clinicians, understanding who should undergo TAVR, how anatomy influences procedural planning, and how to recognise complications is increasingly important.
This session will provide a practical overview of contemporary TAVR, with a focus on patient selection, pre-procedural CT assessment, procedural planning, and post-procedural care. The discussion will explore how clinical factors, surgical risk, age, anatomy, life expectancy, and patient preferences influence treatment decisions, alongside the key CT measurements required for valve sizing and access planning. The session will also cover early and late complications, including conduction abnormalities, paravalvular leak, coronary obstruction, vascular complications, thrombosis, and valve durability.
