Rheumatoid Arthritis Doubles Mortality Risk in Bronchiectasis Patients
8 Aug 2025 • Comorbid rheumatoid arthritis (RA) doubles the mortality risk in bronchiectasis patients (HR 2.09), with seropositive RA showing an even higher risk (HR 2.34) over a 5.8-year follow-up.
Seronegative RA had a 1.29-fold increase. Use of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs further elevated mortality, highlighting the impact of systemic inflammation.
These findings underscore the urgent need for vigilant management of RA in bronchiectasis patients to potentially mitigate excess mortality.
