Intensive Blood Pressure Control Halves Hemorrhagic Stroke Risk
29 Aug 2025 • In 11,255 hypertensive patients at high CV risk, intensive SBP control (<120 mmHg) cut hemorrhagic stroke risk by 49% versus standard treatment (<140 mmHg) over 3.4 years (HR 0.51).
While overall stroke (HR 0.86) and ischemic stroke (HR 0.93) reductions were not significant, landmark analysis showed benefits emerging after 1 year, with a 25% lower stroke risk thereafter (HR 0.75).
Effects were consistent across subgroups, underscoring the value of intensive BP management in preventing hemorrhagic stroke.
