Dialysis Linked to Higher Risk and Mortality After PCI in Young ACS Patients
4 Sept 2025 • In young adults (≤50 years) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute coronary syndrome (ACS), 10.4% were on dialysis and faced significantly worse outcomes.
Key Findings:
- Compared to non-dialysis patients, they had longer hospital stays (4 vs. 2 days), higher major bleeding (10.8% vs. 2.3%), and increased one-year major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) (26.2% vs. 9.8%).
- All-cause mortality (13.9% vs. 3.4%) and recurrent MI (13.9% vs. 6.4%) were also higher.
- Dialysis independently predicted elevated MACE (HR 2.7) and long-term mortality (HR 4.9).
These findings emphasize the need for tailored preventive strategies and careful management in young dialysis patients undergoing PCI.
