Breastfeeding in Infancy Genetically Linked to Reduced Coronary Atherosclerosis Risk

8 Aug 2025 • Genetic evidence links breastfeeding in infancy to a lower risk of coronary atherosclerosis (CA) in adulthood.

In a study of over 800,000 individuals, being breastfed was associated with reduced CA risk in both discovery (OR 0.826) and replication datasets (OR 0.439).

High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) mediated 10.26% of this protective effect, suggesting early-life nutrition may causally influence cardiovascular health by enhancing “good” cholesterol levels.
