Multiple Risk Factors Drive Young Indians’ Heart Attack Surge, Study Warns
5 Aug 2025 • A study highlights the alarming burden of premature coronary heart disease (CHD) in young Indians (<55 years), driven by both thrombotic and atherosclerotic risks.
Compared to controls, CHD patients had significantly higher BP, LDL, triglycerides, fibrinogen, and lower HDL.
Key risk factors included smoking (OR 19.41), low HDL (OR 10.32), hypertension (OR 8.95), high homocysteine (OR 10.54), high triglycerides (OR 3.62), and elevated fibrinogen (OR 2.87).
Poor diet also contributed—low fruit/vegetable intake (OR 1.99) and high fat intake (OR 1.66)—underscoring the urgent need for targeted lifestyle and metabolic interventions.
