Lean MASLD Patients Face Similar Fibrosis Risk as Obese Counterparts
29 Oct 2025 • Lean adults with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) are as likely to develop significant liver fibrosis as their overweight and obese counterparts.
In a study of 312 adults, significant fibrosis was found in 27.3% of the lean and 31.1% of the non-lean individuals. A high genetic risk score (GRS) was linked to higher fibrosis prevalence (36.5% vs 25.2% with low GRS). Importantly, fibrosis rates were comparable across BMI categories in patients with high GRS.
The findings underscore the need for vigilant fibrosis screening even among lean individuals.
