Osteoarthritis Signals Higher Risk of CKM Multimorbidity
10 Sept 2025 • A study of 1,842 adults with osteoarthritis (OA) found a strong link between OA and cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) multimorbidity. Over follow-up, 32.6% developed at least one CKM condition, 27.1% progressed to double CKM, and 5.4% to triple CKM.
Higher OA burden significantly raised risks of new-onset CKM (OR 2.64), double CKM (OR 2.40), and triple CKM (OR 1.49). Multi-state modeling showed OA accelerated progression across disease stages.
These findings highlight OA as not just a joint disorder but a potential early marker of systemic metabolic decline and a valuable predictor for CKM risk stratification and prevention.
