India Releases Tailored Lung Cancer Treatment and Palliation Guidelines Ahead of World Cancer Day

5 Feb 2026 • Ahead of World Cancer Day, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda released India’s new Lung Cancer Treatment and Palliation: Evidence-Based Guidelines, marking a major step toward standardized, patient-centric cancer care nationwide.

Launched at Kartavya Bhavan, New Delhi, the guidelines present 15 evidence-based recommendations covering diagnosis, treatment pathways, and palliative care, tailored specifically to India’s healthcare realities rather than replicating global models.

Developed through systematic evidence synthesis and contextualised for both public and private sectors, the document aims to strengthen early diagnosis, reduce unwarranted treatment variation, and improve quality of life for lung cancer patients. Emphasising the need for indigenous, data-driven solutions, the initiative reinforces the government’s commitment to improving cancer outcomes and embedding evidence-based clinical practice across all levels of care, with full guidelines and patient-friendly summaries made publicly accessible.
