Intensive Risk Factor Management Slashes Atrial Fibrillation Recurrence Post-Ablation
30 Oct 2025 • In patients with BMI ≥ 27 kg/m² and at least one cardiometabolic risk factor, intensive lifestyle and risk factor management (LRFM) nearly halved AF recurrence post-catheter ablation.
At 12 months, 61.3% of the LRFM group had no AF recurrences, compared to 40% in the usual care group (HR 0.53). LRFM also cut symptom severity (−2.0) and also reduced weight (−9 kg), waist size (−7 cm), and systolic BP (−10.8 mm Hg).
These findings reinforce that aggressive management of modifiable risks—particularly weight, blood pressure, and metabolic health—can meaningfully enhance rhythm control and long-term ablation success in AF.
