Uterine Septum Resection Cuts Miscarriage Risk and Boosts Live Births
29 Aug 2025 • A 20-year retrospective study of women with a septate uterus showed that hysteroscopic septum resection markedly improved reproductive outcomes.
Early miscarriage rates fell from 35.6% pre-surgery to 14.8% post-surgery, and recurrent miscarriage dropped from 10.9% to 2.0%.
Live birth rates more than doubled (17.8% to 36.6%), while obstetric outcomes improved with reduced premature rupture of membranes (23.5% to 4.3%) and higher mean birth weight (2734 g to 3095 g).
Findings highlight septum resection as an effective intervention, particularly for women with infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss.
