PAP Timing Unlinked to Infections in Elective Abdominal Surgery
9 Jul 2025 • An analysis of elective abdominal surgeries found no difference in infection rates between on-time (≥30min pre-incision) and delayed perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP) (16.4% overall). 41.9% of pathogens were antibiotic-resistant.
While timing showed no overall effect, procedures >200 minutes benefited from on-time PAP.
Findings challenge strict timing mandates, advocating for tailored approaches based on duration and resistance patterns.
