Autoimmune Diseases Double Delirium Risk in ICU Patients
17 Jul 2025 • Critically ill patients with autoimmune diseases (AIDs) are at significantly higher risk of developing delirium in the ICU.
Delirium occurred in nearly 30% of study participants, with AID patients facing more than double the risk compared to non-AID counterparts after multivariate adjustment (HR: 2.171).
This elevated risk persisted even after rigorous propensity score matching (PSM-adjusted HR: 2.376) and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW-adjusted HR: 2.365).
These findings spotlight the urgent need for intensified delirium monitoring and early cognitive intervention strategies in ICU patients with autoimmune conditions.
