Migraines Triple Hypertension Risk in Adolescents
8 Sept 2025 • A nationwide study of over 2.1 million adolescents (mean age 17) found that migraine was strongly associated with hypertension risk.
Key Findings:
- Among 61,314 migraineurs, 0.7% had hypertension versus 0.2% of non-migraineurs, yielding an adjusted odds ratio (OR) of 3.01.
- The risk was greater for severe migraine (OR 4.41) and for severe hypertension (OR 3.34).
These results highlight migraine, especially in its severe form, as a potential marker for early-onset hypertension, underscoring the need for proactive blood pressure screening and early intervention in this high-risk adolescent group.
