Magnesium Intake Reduces Migraine Risk in Pre-Menopausal Women

2 Sept 2025 • In an analysis of 3,248 women, magnesium intake was linked to lower migraine risk in pre-menopausal women.

Key Findings:

  • Migraine prevalence was 31.3% in pre-menopausal versus 15.6% in post-menopausal women.
  • Among pre-menopausal women, each unit increase in magnesium intake below 325.41 mg/day reduced migraine odds by 36% (OR 0.64), though no added benefit was seen above this threshold.

These findings suggest menopausal status modifies the magnesium–migraine relationship and highlight the potential value of targeted magnesium supplementation in reproductive-age women, given widespread dietary insufficiency.
