HIV Infection Triples Uveitis Risk with Shifting Subtype Prevalence

14 Jul 2025 • HIV-positive adults face a threefold increased risk of developing uveitis (HR = 3.02), with the risk peaking in the first year after diagnosis (HR = 4.68) and remaining elevated for up to three years.

Key Findings:

  • Intermediate and posterior uveitis were more common than anterior forms.
  • Patients with AIDS had a higher risk (HR = 2.64), and those starting treatment within three months also showed increased susceptibility (HR = 2.87).

Findings highlight the need for early and ongoing eye monitoring in HIV care.
