Ultrasound-Guided Surfactant Therapy Personalizes Respiratory Care in Preterm Infants

15 Oct 2025 • A study in preterm infants (<34 weeks) showed that lung ultrasound (LUS)-guided surfactant therapy optimized timing and dosing for neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) and transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN).

Among NRDS cases assessed within an hour of birth, complete lung re-expansion was achieved in 60.0%, 63.6%, and 75.0% after the first, second, and third Poractant alfa doses, with 96.4% achieving full re-expansion within three doses.

All TTN infants reached complete recruitment within two doses. LUS proved a reliable, radiation-free tool for individualized and efficient neonatal respiratory management.
