Robotic Hiatal Hernia Repair Outperforms Laparoscopy in Reducing Complications and Recurrence

8 Aug 2025 • In a study of 8,019 patients, robotic hiatal hernia repair showed superior outcomes over laparoscopy, with lower odds of postoperative ileus (OR 0.59) and ICU admissions (OR 0.31).

While 1-month outcomes were similar, among 4,549 patients followed for a year, robotic surgery significantly reduced symptom recurrence (OR 0.54) and need for endoscopic interventions (OR 0.47).

These results highlight robotic repair as a promising option for improved recovery and long-term symptom control in minimally invasive hernia surgery.
