Hidradenitis Suppurativa Raises Risk of Peripheral Artery Disease
19 Sept 2025 • A large study showed that patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) face a significantly higher risk of peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD).
HS was linked to a 23% higher crude risk (HR 1.230), with the association persisting after adjustment (adjusted HR 1.478).
Kaplan-Meier analysis confirmed increased cumulative PAOD incidence, and sensitivity analyses supported the robustness of findings.
Risk was particularly pronounced in men (HR 1.794) and those aged ≥65 years (HR 1.769).
These results identify HS as an independent cardiovascular risk factor, emphasizing the need for proactive vascular screening and management in this high-risk group.
