Repeated Low-Level Red Light Therapy Slows Myopia Progression in Children

15 Aug 2025 • A study of 2,638 children (ages 3–16) found that repeated low-level red light (RLRL) therapy significantly slowed myopia progression over 6–24 months.

Compared with controls, RLRL reduced axial elongation by up to 0.61 mm and spherical equivalent refraction decline by up to 1.33 D at 24 months, while increasing subfoveal choroidal thickness by ~30 μm at 6–12 months, suggesting improved ocular blood flow.

Effectiveness was linked to baseline myopia severity and treatment frequency.
