Diabetes, Hypertension, and HDP Sharply Raise Post-Pregnancy Heart Risks
14 Jul 2025 • In a study of over 430,000 women, those with diabetes, pre-pregnancy hypertension, and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) faced a nearly 5-fold higher risk of coronary heart disease within five years postpartum (HR = 4.87).
Individually, diabetes and HDP raised coronary heart disease risk by 1.6- and 1.9-fold, respectively. All-cause mortality also doubled in women with the full triad (HR = 2.25).
Findings underscore the need for early cardiovascular screening in high-risk women post-pregnancy.
