NAFLD Outpaces Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Driving Erectile Dysfunction
6 Nov 2025 • A new analysis of TriNetX data found that men with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are at a significantly higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction (ED) compared to those with alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD).
In a cohort of 9,066 matched patients, NAFLD patients had a 28% higher ED risk within 1 year (2.39% vs 1.84%; HR 1.26), and the elevated risk persisted at 3 years (5.23% vs 4.17%; HR 1.22) and 5 years (6.81% vs 5.82%; HR 1.13).
NAFLD in men may signal elevated ED risk, underscoring the importance of early assessment and proactive management soon after diagnosis.
