Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Strongly Linked to Cardiovascular Risk
23 Sept 2025 • A recent study found that idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients face significantly elevated cardiovascular risks.
Pooled analyses showed more than double the odds of cardiovascular disease in case-control/cross-sectional datasets (OR = 2.44) and a 44% increased risk in cohort datasets (RR = 1.44).
Subgroup analyses confirmed heightened risks across ischemic heart disease, thromboembolic disease, and pulmonary hypertension, with increases ranging from 1.14- to 2.51-fold.
These results highlight the need for systematic cardiovascular screening and proactive risk management in individuals with IPF.
