Maternal Primary Sjögren’s Syndrome Linked to Neonatal Cardiac Disease
29 May 2025 • Pregnant women with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) face a higher risk of having newborns with heart conditions (29%).
Key Findings:
- Affected infants also had increased rates of preterm birth, low birth weight, asphyxia, brain injury, and infections.
- Key maternal risk factors included umbilical cord issues, low C3/C4 levels, preterm labor, and immunosuppressant use.
- Higher pSS disease activity significantly raised neonatal heart disease risk (OR 1.503).
Findings call for close monitoring and multidisciplinary care in pSS pregnancies.
