PAR Shows High Specificity in Diagnosing Pediatric Sepsis
11 Apr 2025 • A prospective study highlights the diagnostic value of the procalcitonin-to-albumin ratio (PAR) and CRP-to-albumin ratio (CAR) in identifying sepsis severity in children.
Among pediatric patients, PAR demonstrated superior specificity (95.61%) compared to CAR (64.21%) for diagnosing sepsis on the day of admission, although CAR had higher sensitivity.
ROC curve analysis revealed AUCs of 0.73 for PAR and 0.67 for CAR, indicating moderate diagnostic accuracy. Clinically, 19% of patients developed septic shock, 11% died, and 13% required respiratory support.
