Persistent Prediabetes Increases Pancreatic Cancer Risk by 28%
17 Jul 2025 • Persistent prediabetes significantly raises the risk of developing pancreatic cancer by 28% compared to individuals with stable normoglycemia (aHR 1.28).
Interestingly, those who reversed their prediabetic status saw no significant increase in cancer risk (aHR 1.02), highlighting the potential benefits of early glycemic control.
Over a median follow-up of 6.4 years, 7,698 participants developed pancreatic cancer, with similar trends observed across sexes.
These findings suggest that reversing prediabetes could be a key strategy in mitigating the rising burden of pancreatic cancer.
