Persistent Inflammation in Psoriasis: Hidden Cardiovascular Risk Despite Clear Skin
21 May 2025 • A study reveals that over one-third (36.3%) of psoriasis patients on biologic therapy continue to exhibit residual inflammation, defined as high-sensitivity CRP ≥ 2 mg/L, even after achieving near-complete skin clearance.
This persistent systemic inflammation, a known cardiovascular risk driver, was significantly associated with obesity, metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease, higher baseline inflammatory burden, and increased visceral fat.
The findings underscore a critical insight: optimal skin response does not equate to systemic quiescence, spotlighting obesity and fatty liver disease as key therapeutic targets to mitigate inflammation-driven cardiovascular risk in psoriasis.
