IVIG Alone Effectively Prevents Coronary Artery Lesions in Kawasaki Disease
4 Apr 2025 • A multicenter randomized clinical trial has shown that intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) alone is as effective as IVIG combined with high-dose aspirin (80–100 mg/kg per day) in preventing coronary artery lesions (CALs) in children under six years with Kawasaki disease (KD).
At six weeks, CAL rates were 1.5% in the IVIG-only group and 2.9% in the IVIG + aspirin group, with similar trends at six months (3.1% vs. 1.4%).
As no statistically significant difference was observed, these findings suggest IVIG alone may suffice, potentially simplifying standard KD treatment.
