Maternal Asthma Linked to Higher Risk of Autism and ADHD in Offspring
9 Jul 2025 • Maternal asthma increases children's neurodevelopmental disorder risks: 36% higher autism spectrum disorder (ASD) (OR=1.36) and 43% higher attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (OR=1.43) risk.
ASD showed sex differences—no significant female risk (OR=1.81) but elevated male risk (OR=1.28). ADHD risks were significant in both males (OR=1.36) and females (OR=1.45).
These findings highlight the impact of maternal asthma on neurodevelopment, suggesting the need for targeted monitoring in high-risk pregnancies.
