Early Invasive Strategy in Older ACS Patients Cuts Recurrent MI, But Not Mortality
24 Jun 2025 • An analysis involving 3,009 patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) finds that an early invasive strategy offers no survival advantage over conservative treatment.
While all-cause mortality remained comparable between groups (RR = 1.05), the invasive approach significantly reduced the risk of recurrent myocardial infarction by 22% (RR = 0.78) and repeated coronary revascularization by 57% (RR = 0.43).
However, this came at the cost of a 60% increased risk of major bleeding (RR = 1.60).
These findings highlight the need for individualized, shared decision-making in older adults, balancing the benefits of reduced ischemic events against bleeding risks.
