Cesarean Delivery Associated with Increased Risk of Early Childhood Overweight and Obesity
19 Jun 2025 • Children born via cesarean section may face a modest but statistically significant increase in the risk of developing overweight and obesity in early childhood.
Researchers found that cesarean delivery was linked to an 18% higher risk of overweight/obesity (RR 1.18), with separate risks of 11% for overweight (RR 1.11) and 23% for obesity (RR 1.23), compared to vaginal delivery.
With cesarean rates on the rise globally, the study highlights an important consideration in birth planning and early-life preventive strategies.
