DASH and Low-GI Diets Show Promise in Gestational Diabetes Management
20 May 2025 • A new meta-analysis involving 2,666 women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) reveals that targeted dietary interventions can significantly improve maternal and fetal outcomes.
Key Findings:
- The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet emerged as the most effective strategy for glycemic control—reducing fasting glucose (SMD = -2.35), 2h postprandial glucose (SMD = -1.41), and insulin resistance (MD = -1.90)—while halving cesarean risk (OR = 0.54).
- The Low-GI diet cut macrosomia risk by 88% (OR = 0.12).
Both the DASH and Low-GI diets outperformed standard dietary advice, highlighting their value in GDM management.
