Beta-Blocker Break Raises Cardiovascular Risks Post-MI, Especially in Hypertensives
23 May 2025 • Interrupting β-blocker therapy after an uncomplicated myocardial infarction led to sustained increases in systolic BP (+3.7 mmHg), diastolic BP (+3.3 mmHg), and heart rate (+10 bpm), despite more antihypertensive use.
Among hypertensive patients (43%), this translated into a higher risk of adverse events (25.8% vs. 19.2%; adjusted HR 1.18), with a 5.02% absolute risk increase.
Findings underscore the risks of β-blocker withdrawal, particularly in hypertensive patients.
